Get ready for a dose of nostalgia! The internet’s loved saas-bahu jodi, Ratna Pathak Shah and Rupali Ganguly, are back together on screen! Reprising their iconic roles as Maya Sarabhai and Monisha Sarabhai from the cult classic sitcom Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, the actresses have reunited for a new Flipkart advertisement.

The ad brings back the signature styles of both characters. Ratna Pathak Shah wears the elegant saree and blunt haircut synonymous with Maya, while Rupali Ganguly rocks Monisha’s colourful red salwar kameez. The commercial features them shopping for groceries, with Maya hilariously confusing discounted items for those brought from Monisha’s “mayka” (parents’ home). Monisha, ever the tolerant daughter-in-law, explains the Flipkart deals, even causing a chuckle with her endearing term for peanut butter – “moongfali ki chutney.”

Fans erupted with joy upon seeing their favourite characters share the screen once more. Social media was swamped with comments expressing excitement and love for the iconic duo.

Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai first graced our screens in 2004 on STAR One, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon. The show concluded its first season in 2006 but returned for a second season titled Take 2 on Disney+ Hotstar in 2017. Written and directed by Aatish Kapadia, with Deven Bhojani taking on directing duties, the show was produced by Hats Off Productions under Jamnadas Majethia. The cast included Satish Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, and Rajesh Kumar, who brought to life the characters of Indravardhan, Sahil, and Rosesh Sarabhai, respectively.

While Maya, the quintessential upper-class socialite, often clashed with her middle-class homemaker daughter-in-law Monisha, their dynamic comedy was a major reason for the show’s popularity.

In other news, Ratna Pathak Shah recently accompanied her husband, the acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah, at the Cannes Film Festival for the screening of the restored classic. Churning by Shyam Benegal. Meanwhile, Rupali Ganguly recently became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
